QuestRoute is a GPS navigation app for Android and Android Auto with map styles inspired by games. This policy explains what data the app uses and why. In short: no account, no sign-in, no ads, no analytics or tracking SDKs, and we run no server that receives your data.
The app uses your precise or approximate location to show your position, calculate routes from where you are and give turn-by-turn guidance. Location permission is optional: you can browse the map and search without it.
While a navigation session is active (started on the phone or in Android Auto), location keeps updating with the screen off or the app in the background so voice guidance continues. An ongoing notification is shown during this time, and the session ends when you arrive, tap End or close the app. Outside navigation the app does not use location in the background.
Your last known position is saved on your device so the map opens where you left it.
To draw the map, find places and calculate routes, the app sends the minimum necessary requests to the services below. These requests carry no account or identity. Like any web request, they reveal your device's IP address to that service.
| Service | Purpose | Data sent |
|---|---|---|
| OpenFreeMap (tiles.openfreemap.org) | Map tiles | Requested map area, IP address |
| Photon by komoot (photon.komoot.io) | Place search | Search text, approximate map position, IP address |
| FOSSGIS OSRM (routing.openstreetmap.de) | Route calculation | Start, stop and destination coordinates, IP address |
| OpenStreetMap Nominatim (nominatim.openstreetmap.org) | Detailed address search, only when you tap "Search this address in detail" | Search text, approximate map area, IP address |
| Google (maps.app.goo.gl and similar links) | Only when you share a Google Maps link into the app, or import a Google list that contains only links: the link is opened to read the place's coordinates | The link, IP address |
| Google Play Billing | In-app purchases | Handled by Google under Google's Privacy Policy |
Each provider processes requests under its own privacy policy. If we change providers, this page will be updated.
Settings, saved places, alert points you mark (for example a pothole or speed bump), your last parking spot and recent searches are stored only on your device. They are never uploaded or shared. Uninstalling the app or clearing its storage deletes them.
Files you import (Google Takeout, KML, GPX) are read on your device. Text or places you share into the app are also read on your device.
The speed camera list (OpenStreetMap data) is built into the app; checking for cameras ahead happens on your device and sends nothing.
Android Auto shows guidance on your car's screen using the same data described here; nothing extra is sent to us.
Purchases are handled entirely by Google Play. The app only learns whether a product was purchased; we never see your payment details.
Nothing is sent automatically. If you choose Send feedback or Share error report, the app prepares a message with your text, the app version, device model, Android version, selected map style and, for error reports, the app's local error log. Your location is not included. You choose the app to send it with (for example email) and decide whether to send it. We use what we receive only to fix problems and reply to you, and delete it when it is no longer needed.
QuestRoute is made for drivers and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
You can turn off the location permission at any time in Android settings. You can delete all data the app keeps by clearing its storage or uninstalling it. Since we hold no data about you on any server, there is nothing else to delete; if you sent us feedback by email and want it deleted, write to us.
